Second Teaching Practicum....second chance!!!!
Well my dear friends, this time was not so good for me....why? because during the class observation in Teacher Ovidio`s class they were always 16 or 18 students, and in that way I prepared the material and the activities based on that number. However, in my first class, it was 9:20 and only 3 students were in the classroom...so sad... suddenly 2 more and finally 1 extra...
All this means that at the end I had to teach with only 6 students, which was really unconfortable because of the activities, the warm up, etc.
So, the show must go on!!! I started the calss playing the famous "hot potatoe" but with the onion ball version...for that I wrote some verbs in present for them to say the past participle, some questions, some verbs in past, etc. because of the number, every single student had the chance to participate...but as you can imagine it is not the same working with 6 ss than working with 18...

After that, I asked them to work with me in a review of the simple past pattern through the organization of some sentences on the board, some volunteers came to the front and each of them had to arrange the sentence in the correct order. We did the same with the Present Perfect structure and we fixed the mistakes related with the tense of the verbs. As you know, I like working in this way, because you involve the students a lot in the development of the topic, and you make them feel comfortable because anyone will be laughing about their mistakes.
By the end of the class I gave them a mini practice in order to see their development of the topic, it is so predictable that most of Students agree with you during the explanation, but during the practice time you realize that they still have problems with the tense of the verbs, in the organization of the sentence in general, etc.
What I consider really necessary is the extra practice you have by yourself, in order to increase your skill with the different structures, for that reason I gave them a short reading paragraph for them to underline the sentences in present perfect tense or simple past.
I think I did my best. Unfortunately, things didn´t work in the way I wanted....maybe next time!!!!

Hello ma´m, I imagine how difficult must be to deal with a situation like that one because you designed your lesson and the activities thinking about all your students, and sometimes we need a certain number of students to develop the activities in the right way, but the important was that you fixed them and made it! As teachers, we have to keep in mind that no matter if only one student comes to the class, the learning process must happen!! (may be they all were at the fair ;)Hope next time they all come!!
ResponderEliminarI am sure you did it right!! blessings...
Hello elegant lady!!
ResponderEliminarI really like the way you described and expressed your feelings in regard with this experience; reading it was very entertained.
Well, I'm sorry about what happened with the students; that must be a challenge since having few students in the class decreases the time for each activity. Hopefully, that won't happen again.
But hey! thanks God, you were mature and intelligent enough to know what to do and work adequately with the people you had. Thus, at the end of the day, you gain a new experience which I'm pretty sure you could handle.
Hello Saribiris!! I see you had a not so good beginning but still I know you learned a lot! I know that you would have had done a better job with the other students; however, I think you did great. The activities were suitable to the group and level. Everything was developed in a normal way. Kind of uncomfortable as you said but anyway; you did your job. Hopefully you do not face that circumstance again. keep working and improving as always my dear. Best wishes!! (I like the images, BTW) ;)
ResponderEliminarHello Dear Sarah!!!!!
ResponderEliminarWell, I was with you and it was so uncomfortable when only three students were in the classroom. I felt so nervous too because I could observe all the effort you had put preparing a really nice lesson. However, I liked your class; the best was the all the students participated in the warm up and all the activities. I think it was a good class, and you shouldn't feel like that because you did your best!!!
CONGRATULATIONS MY DEAR FRIEND!!!!!!!!
MAY GOD BLESS YOU!!!
Are the Ss afraid of you? I´m kidding!!! This situation should be really annoying because you make plans for the whole class and at the end there´s only one third of them.
ResponderEliminarOn the other hand, having them engaged in the activities always works because we are naturally afraid of mistakes, surprisingly you got them laughing at theirs.Nice experience.
Hahahahaha ↑ this guy is just crazy, but seriously, are they? XD. Well, You did very well, but not everything can work as it was planned. Try not to feel like that, I mean, see it just as a new experience to learn on how to teach in a more personalized way. you can take the best of each thing in life and learn at least a little bit. Keep doing well, Cicada leader. I know you will always do great.
ResponderEliminarHello Sarita!! I liked the way you developed your class, and even though you had problems you did it very nice!! Something I love is the confidence you have and I know this was just like a step for you to improve. Congrats my friend!!
ResponderEliminarHi Sarita I am really sorry for that inconvenience that you had with the students, I hope next time most of the students go to class. the Best thing is that you could improvise your activities and at the end you succeed with your class. Next time is going to be better.
